Cebu Negros Earthquake in Philippines
Magnitude 6.7 - NEGROS - CEBU REGION, PHILIPPINES


On February 6, 2012 11:49 AM a 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake hit Queen City of the South and Negros, a depth of 11 km (6.8 miles). A tsunami alert was raised feared by thousands of people that a catastrophic event might happened. All provinces where alerted South West of Cebu that a possible level 2 Tsunami might arrive in towns. Local town folks of Moalboal and other towns rushed to higher grounds. Most of them went to Barili a high elevated town located nearby.
Meanwhile, in Cebu City, when the Earthquake struck people began to panic according to few witnesses "People where running from Colon st. to Fuente OsmeƱa and Lahug seeking for safety". A tsunami alert has been lifted but vigilance should remain, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said “People are advised to stay away from the shoreline. People should not go to the coast to watch the tsunami. People whose houses are very near coastal areas of Negros and Cebu islands are strongly advised to be watchful,” Phivolcs earlier warned.
